A Beginners Guide To Golf Clubs - Part One, The Background

Golf is a sport that is ever increasing in its popularity. While it used to be frowned upon by most as simply being a sport for “yuppies”, doctors and CEOs who were avoiding their board rooms, golf has been coming into its own.

This series will attempt to describe the different types of Golf Clubs and what they are used for.

With the help of movies like Tin Cup, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Happy Gilmore and of course the comedy classic Caddyshack, the sport of Golf is quickly becoming less of a sport to sneer at and more of a sport to play if you want to seem “cool”.

Recent ad campaigns include “Play Golf America” in which A list celebrities say “Play golf America!” into a camera.

But much confusion surrounds golf.

For a sport that seems to be all about getting a tiny ball into a tiny hole that is very far away, a lot of emphasis has been placed on using the right club to get the ball to its destination.

There are woods, irons, wedges, putters and utility clubs/hybrids.

What are these different golf clubs and what do they do?

Watch out for Part Two - ‘Which Golf Clubs Are Which?’, coming soon!

Links LS Championship Course: Oakland Hills Country Club (PC)

Links LS Championship Course: Oakland Hills Country Club (PC) Access Software has waited a long time to produce Oakland Hills Country Club, one of the world’s mailine golf courses.

Since its very beginning in the early 1920s, Oakland Hills has made its mark in the annals of golf history.

The 1924, 1937, 1951, 1961, 1985 and 1996 US Opens, along with the 1972 and 1979 PGA Championships and the 1981 and 1991 US Senior Opens were all held at this proud venue.

It was at the memorable 1951 US Open - when the South Course was revamped and made almost unbearable by Robert Trent Jones - that it received its nickname, “The Monster.”

Only two players that year had rounds under par. Ben Hogan’s 287 total won the Open and caused him to exclaim his joy at having “brought this course, this MONSTER, to its knees.”

Now, in this newest addition to the Links Championship Course lineup, you too can play The Monster and experience for yourself why the 18th at Oakland Hills is considered by many to be “the toughest finishing hole in golf.”

Leaderboard Top Players Showing Up Well at Oakmont

What a finish the final round at Oakmont is shaping up to be with Pro-LeaderBoard player Aaron Baddeley going head to head with Tiger Woods in the last group on Sunday.

Of course, further back we have another ProLeaderboard player, Stuart Appleby also in with a great chance to pull off his first Major.

And the one thing that both Aaron and Stuart have in common is that they both train on the ProLeaderboard Golf Trainer.

According to Aaron:

“Who would have believed it possible to design an ‘all in one’ machine that covers every facet of my golf game. It can help me with drills for putting, chipping, hitting irons and driver.

All of the exercises, which appear on the DVD, can be done at the golf course or in the hotel room when I am travelling on tour. Fantastic.” - Aaron Baddeley

Leaderboard Golf TrainerIf either Aaron or Stuart manage to finish ahead of the pack on Sunday at Oakment, that will be two US Open (remember Choi last week!), wins in a row for our LeaderBoard players.

Remember, Geoff Ogilvy won the 2006 US Open.

Why not check out the ProLeaderboard now. It could make a huge difference to YOUR game. Just click here, for more!
